we had way too much fun and wanted to share with you!!! Bacco Bistro was probably one of our favs in Seattle and wanted to eat there twice- but there were just too many great places to try. Bacco is located at 86 Pine St. between Pike Place’s waterfront and the downtown shops. We passed it, then smelled it and decided to stop in for breakfast. It’s such a great location because you can sit outside and watch all the people walking by. Their food is AMAZING!!! The portions are decent

For those of you who don’t know, Brioche is a pastry similar to a highly enriched bread of French origin, whose high egg and butter content give it a rich and tender crumb. Therefore, the French toast was nice and fluffy, not heavy at all. You really don’t even need syrup on this dish because it is already sweet from the fruit. The best part, it is only $9.00. It left us wanting more and we talked about it the rest of the trip. Of course, we had to try the Biscuits and Gravy with homemade sausage next. We ate our food in under five minutes and wanted more, but we were too full, sadly. We highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast. I must warn you that there can be a long wait to get it. There were a ton of people standing outside waiting to get in- a great sign!!

Restaurant, just walking the streets of Seattle. The smell and the crowd standing outside is what caught our eye. We knew this had to be great pizza!!! I can honestly say that we have never experienced a 1.5-2 hr wait for a pizza place. We put our name down and were told that the wait would be approximately 1.5 hours. People walked out of the restaurant holding a pizza to go box and we asked them if it was worth the wait and they said “definitely”. Unfortunately, we were not anticipating the wait so we were left famished and moody walking the streets of Seattle and almost didn’t wait. Then our cell phone rang and it was Serious Pie time!! The menu has very different pizza options. I have listed the pizzas below.

We chose the sweet fennel sausage, roasted peppers, provolone which was very tasty!!! The fennel sausage especially stood out with each bite. The pizza crust isn’t too thin or too thick, just a light medium crust. It is very warm in the restaurant from the wood burning ovens. They offer a happy hour from 3-5 p.m. Monday-Friday where mini pies are only $6, wine $5 and beer for $4. Serious Pie is in a great location for walking around while awaiting your reservation. We walked to Pike Place and hung out for an hour while waiting for our reservation.

A little about Tom Douglas: Tom Douglas was born August 2, 1958. He is an American executive chef, restaurateur, author, and radio talk show host. He is known for winning the 1994 James Beard Award for Best Northwest Chef. Tom also won the James Beard Award as Best Restaurateur. He is the author of Tom Douglas’ Seattle Kitchen, which was named the Best American Cookbook by the James Beard Foundation and KitchenAid, in 2001. He appeared on an episode of the Food Network’s Iron Chef America in 2005, where he defeated Chef Masaharu Morimoto and was named Iron Chef.

Now off to Lola for breakfast!!! Another Tom-Douglas restaurant, which we did not know anything about at the time. We asked the concierge at the Seattle Sheraton where she recommended for an amazingly different breakfast experience and she instantly said Lola!! Lola restaurant is exactly as you

would picture an earthy, rustic but modern, trendy tucked away spot. It is nestled in the bottom of Hotel Andra on the corner of 4th and Virginia. The menu is all farm fresh and you can taste the freshness in every bite! They also have the best potatoes I have ever had, very different.  They use new potatoes and bake them in the oven, smash them down with a spoon after they’ve been baked -until they slightly break open and then fry them. They were so soft inside and not greasy at all but crunchy on the outside. They were rolled in herbs and sea salt. Yes, we asked the waitress exactly how to make them. They were that good.

lights hanging from the ceiling. The restaurant opens up to Hotel Andra, where people are checking in and out with constant movement. The waiting area for the restaurant in actually in the hotel lobby where you can people watch. The restaurant is located on a corner as well, so once you are seated you can watch people walking on the streets. Our wait was about 40 minutes and definitely worth it!!

that there would be a fabulous restaurant with a ton of life taking place behind that simple pink door. The Pink Door is EXACTLY what we were looking for in the way of exciting, unique and different from Kauai. It is located on Post Alley and for those of you who are unfamiliar with Post Alley, as we were, it is more than one alley!!! Post Alley is an alley which runs along several blocks, which made finding The Pink Door somewhat challenging. Now we were even more intrigued to discover The Pink Door. We walked around Post Alley in the afternoon to locate this pink door prior to our dinner reservation.

We had never eaten at a restaurant which offered Cabaret, Tarot, Opera and Magic all in one place. The first thing I noticed upon entering was the blue velvet swing on the ceiling. Once you step foot inside the restaurant, you are looking down into this old world Italian decorated, family style restaurant. One wall is cement block which gives you the feel of being underground in very old building, which is throughout Pike Place. We happened to be at Pike Place during the 100 year anniversary which seemed to bring everything more to life.

waitresses were dressed in black with white aprons. We were seated on the outdoor patio which had a completely different feel from the inside of the restaurant. The tables outside were covered in vinyl tablecloths of all colors. None of them matched each other. The patio sat inside of a lattice fence which looked out onto the waterfront.

were completely satisfied with the wine and bread alone. Loved the small wine glasses which were perfect for the patio! Cheers!!

For our first course, we ordered the roasted beets, arugula, gorgonzola cheese & toasted walnuts salad. Amazing!! My husband isn’t a beets fan and absolutely loved it. Plus it’s pretty to look at. The salad is light and perfect to share.

The Pink Door has Italian-American food which are family recipes inspired by Sunday gatherings at the Padrona’s. They offer quarterly seasonal menus which are drawn from the ever-changing seasons of the farms in the Northwest.

split. The sauce tasted very homemade and rich. The meatballs were large and moist, just melted in our mouths. The menu is not large, but offers a variety of options from seafood to baby-back ribs.

Finally for dessert we ordered something so delicious. It was kind of like a peach cobbler, served warm but made with a crust and fresh peaches. My husband, who normally doesn’t eat dessert, finished it off.

Next time you are in Seattle, you must visit The Pink Door!!

When walking through Pike Place, you cannot miss Beecher’s Cheese store.

This is how it all started:

A cheese lover since childhood, Kurt Beecher Dammeier remembers encouraging his mother to buy artisan cheese at a time when processed cheese was overtaking the market; and he recalls his great-grandfather, whose first name was Beecher, purchasing Stilton by the wheel.”

We walked into the store and asked what is the most famous thing that you sell here and they said- Mac & Cheese. So Mac & Cheese it was. To die for! It is very rich and creamy.  “We came up with this recipe when we opened Beecher’s. We wanted to show our customers that you can cook with and eat great cheese every day, and this killer mac and cheese uses two of our cheeses with a background hint of garlic powder and chipotle pepper. We’ve already won the vote for Seattle’s best Mac and Cheese, but the tens of thousands of people a year from all over the world who eat it in our store tell us it’s the world’s Best.”

                                                                                                           serves 4 as a side dish
SAUCE
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole milk
7 ounces Flagship cheese, grated (about 1 3/4 cups)
1 ounce Just Jack cheese, grated (1/4 cup)
½ teaspoon coarse salt
¼ to ½ teaspoon chipotle chili powder
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

PASTA
6 ounces penne pasta (about 3 ¼ cups)
1 ounce (1/4 cup) Flagship cheese, grated
1 ounce (1/4 cup) Just Jack cheese, grated
¼ to ½ teaspoon chipotle chili powder Instructions
To prepare sauce, melt butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat and whisk in the flour. Continue whisking and cook for 2 minutes. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly. Cook until sauce thickens, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Add cheeses, salt, chili powder and garlic powder. Stir until cheese is melted and all ingredients are incorporated, about 3 minutes. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350F. Butter or oil an 8-inch baking dish. Cook penne 2 minutes less than package directions. (It will finish cooking in the oven.) Rinse pasta in cold water and drain well.

Combine pasta and sauce in a medium bowl; mix carefully but thoroughly. Scrape the pasta into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle top with cheeses and then the chili powder.

Bake, uncovered, 20 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

a sunny day, eat clam chowder and watch the seagulls. But watch out for your food! The seagulls love to watch your food while you watch the waterfront. As you can see in the picture above, not too many people opt to eat up at the counter and have those seagulls stare you down. Ivar’s not only has great chowder, we also had to try the Cajun-style fish and chips with lots and lots of malt vinegar and garlic malt vinegar. Yum!!!  Ivar’s is a seafood restaurant chain based in Seattle.

abudance of coffee shops- literally on every corner in downtown Seattle, there is only one that we love and that is Tully’s Coffee. Everyone has their preference in coffee and on Kauai we are so limited. It was a very hot day at Pike Place in August, so we opted for an Iced Tea Latte with Earl Grey tea. Simply blissful, cool, and refreshing to walk the streets of Pike Place.

If you haven’t had a Tully’s coffee, try one while in Seattle. Tully’s Coffee first opened in 1992 as a specialty coffee retailer and wholesaler based in Seattle. Tully’s serves specialty coffees, espresso, baked goods, pastries, and coffee-related supplies. It also has overseas licensing agreements in Japan and South Korea. Tully’s Coffee is well known for once following an expansion strategy of opening stores adjacent to those of the considerably larger coffee chain Starbucks, also based in Seattle. Woodinville, WA: Woodinville is located in King County, Washington. The population is approximately 10,938. Woodinville is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. There is a much larger population in Woodinville when including the adjacent areas of King (Cottage Lake) and Snohomish (Maltby) counties. Woodinville has waterfront parks on the Sammamish River, sweeping winery and brewery grounds, and densely wooded residential areas.

Woodinville’s economy is a mix of light industrial, retail, and tourism. Woodinville is commonly known for its local wineries, which showcase wines from grapes grown in Eastern Washington including Chateau Ste. Michelle, which is well-known for their popular summer concert series, Columbia Winery and dozens of other smaller ones. The Woodinville Tourist District is also home to the Redhook Ale Brewery and several fine restaurants including The Herbfarm “destination” restaurant.

Until July 2007, the north end of the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train’s route was at the Columbia Winery. Talks are currently underway to restore service, but running from Woodinville north to Snohomish, instead of south to Renton.

Eat a big breakfast before heading out on the 6 hour tour. We walked to Pike Place first and had a great breakfast at Bacco Bistro prior to taking off to Woodinville. The tour company will provide a meat and cheese platter at one of the wineries. However, I highly recommend bringing snacks so that you don’t get too woosey. Ha! We packed our beef jerky and granola bars (very posh) to snack during the ride. Bring enough to share!!! The tour take anywhere from 2-10 people. Our tour had a group of 8 from all over the U.S. It was fun chatting it up with a group, laughing along the way.

My husband’s second favorite was the 2009 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The tastings at this winery were primarily reds. The staff was personable, knowledgable and fun!!! Be sure to ask for Erich!!He took us back to the barrels where we were able to sample directly from the barrel.

We were thrilled to be able to experience a tasting from an additional winery that day called Celaeno Winery.  Brian was very accommodating and described the details of his amazing wine- Road to Hell. The benefits of wine tasting from two wineries all in one place!!

As people who don’t typically drink white wine, we were blown away by the flavor and body of the white wine “Road to Hell”. Brian offered a taste of two different versions of his white wine. Both wines were the exact same grape and made at the exact same time. The difference in the two was that one was in an oak barrel and the other was in a stainless steel tank. We couldn’t believe the difference in the two. The wine from the stainless steel was a softer wine that left your palate immediately, while the “Road to Hell” had a bold flavor that lasted well after the taste. In addition, you were able to get a really good taste of the oak; it wasn’t overwhelmingly oaky, just perfect. The Road to Hell would be excellent with good chicken or seafood.  We even asked the owner if we could have another glass – which he was nice enough to give.

nice lady standing behind waiting to pour our drinks. Before pouring though, she began telling us about the property, the owners and the wine.

The introduction was very educational and had us all eager to try the wine. The ambiance and setting at this winery was quite  inviting. After our second tasting of the wine, John the owner took us in the back of the winery to show the barrels and explain where the wine was made. John took the time to explain their vineyards, the process, and THEIR style of making wine. Oh yeah, he also gave us two tastings of the wine right out of the barrel!!! We learned more about the process of wine making in the 15 minutes in the back of JM than ever before. We learned about the different kinds of oak barrels and why they use the ones they do. After he was finished explaining, we went to the next room for tasting. This is where we tasted our favorite JM wine the 2010 TRE, which is named after their three sons. The wine was amazing and something we wish we could have all of the time – for when we have company or just eating steak. This was a great wine!

John mentioned monthly family dinners that are held at the winery. I contacted the winery to find out more information.

“We hold what we call “Family Dinners” each quarter.  These are usually for our wine club members and guests featuring a local chef who will cook on site and share the process with the guests as the evening progresses.  They are intimate groups of 40 and we always have amazing food.”

We opened our winery in early 1999 on three acresin the Prosser Wine and Food Park.Our winery building is 15,000 square feet, which includes a 13,500 square foot cellar, tank, warehouse and barrel area as well as a 1,500 square foot tasting room, gift shop and office.We opened our doors as a 3,000 case winery and are now at approximately 35,000 cases.We are predominately a red wine producer with 90% of our production in Lady in Red, our red table blend, as well as our red varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. The remaining 10% is in Platinum – a blend of Gewurztraminer and Viognier, as well as Chardonnay and Viognier varietals.Barrel aging plays an important part in our wine production. Kestrel wine tasting was located in a warehouse setting and was definitely the most commercial of the three wineries that day. As the tour guide said, “The wineries in the warehouse industrial area are like the Disneyland of wine tasting”. The tastings were in a room with tables which seemed to cater to larger groups. A marketing woman stood up and presented each wine to the table and then moved on to other tables. She was very knowledgable, while sales focussed at the same time. The two other wineries seemed to be more informative as we got to drink directly from the various barrels. Kestrel would be a great place to go wine tasting with a large group, as it was not an intimate setting. To be honest, we were loving the meat and cheese tray at the time. This was the only winery that day which passed out an order form for their wine. Not sure we really cared for that. Our view about wine is – if we LOVE it than we will buy it, we don’t need an order form. We were thankful that they had complementary water and lemon aide as well as live music.

$$ saving tips: Highly recommend booking a tour for several reasons. You can wine taste at numerous wineries and not worry about driving. Although the wine tastings were only about $10 per person, you will save money booking the tour because you wont have to rent a car, deal with GPS, hire a driver nor pay for gas. Also, the tour guides are so knowledgable and you don’t have to choose which wineries to visit when there are over 100 in Woodinville. The tour guides encourage feedback from the clients. We had an exceptional tour guide who kept us laughing while educating the group about each winery.
